Throughout the Month of May
Anyone wishing to flag a Veterans Grave in need of a graveside memorial flag – Please do not hesitate to come down to the office of The City of Haverhill Veterans Services Department located on the second floor of the Haverhill Citizen’s Center at 10 Welcome St Haverhill MA 01830. We will provide you with flags during normal business hours throughout the month of May. Our office is responsible for providing flags for approximately 8000 Veterans graves throughout the City of Haverhill. We rely heavily on volunteers because many of our buried veterans no longer have living relatives within the city to flag their graves. Anyone wishing to place flags throughout the Memorial Day week may do so and the community is encouraged to come by our offices here at the Veterans Services Department if they want to flag a Veterans’ grave.

Sunday May 24th
Ringing of the Bells – We encourage all community and civic organizations, businesses, religious organizations, individuals, friends, and family to ring a bell in honor of the fallen on Sunday, May 25TH at Noon. The tolling of church bells is a traditional practice used to honor and remember the men and women who have died in service to the country. This practice, often referred to as "ringing for the fallen," serves as a solemn and somber reminder of the sacrifices made by our military personnel.
The ringing of bells on Memorial Day is a way to acknowledge and honor the lives of those who have died in service to the nation. The sound of the bells is a powerful symbol of remembrance, grief, and respect for the fallen. Many churches participate in ringing bells on Memorial Day, and some organizations, like the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, also encourage bell ringing to honor fallen firefighters. We ask that you “Ring for the Fallen” on this day at 12 noon in honor of all our fallen heroes to include Fire, Police, and First responders. All are welcome to participate!
