Residential Smoke & Carbon Monoxide Detector Inspections

As mandated by State Law Chapter 148 Section 26F & 26F1/2, the Haverhill Fire Prevention Office inspects the smoke and carbon monoxide detectors of residential properties before each real estate sale is completed. Inspections are done on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Only a limited number of inspections can be done on any given day so we strongly suggest you schedule your inspection well in advance of your closing date. The inspection certificate is valid for 60 days.

You may pay online with a credit card or e-check, or by mailing in or bringing in checks made payable to the City of Haverhill to:

Inspections will not be scheduled until payment is received.

Please Note: the permit Applicant will receive an email with the Inspection Date and will receive a call with the Appointment Time. Be certain the email address and phone number are correct.

The smoke detector and Carbon Monoxide inspection certificate fee is:

  • 1 Residential Unit $50
  • 2 Residential Units $100
  • 3 – 6 Residential Units $150
  • 7 and above Residential Units $500
