Drought Emergency Remains in Effect – Indoor Water Conservation Strongly Urged

The City of Haverhill remains under a Drought Emergency, and water supply conditions continue to be closely monitored. Click here to see the City Council presentation.

Although outdoor water use is limited during the winter months, the Haverhill Water Department is urging residents and businesses to be especially mindful of indoor water use. Indoor conservation remains essential to protecting the City’s drinking water supply.

Kenoza Lake, one of the City’s primary drinking water sources, is trending toward the critical drought level due to ongoing drought conditions and limited natural recharge.

Residents and businesses are strongly urged to use water only when necessary and avoid waste by:

  • Limiting unnecessary water use and being mindful of how long water is running (washing hands, brushing teeth, showering, etc.)
  • Running dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads
  • Regularly checking and promptly repairing leaking faucets, toilets, and pipes
  • Using high-efficiency fixtures and appliances where available

The City continues to monitor reservoir levels and overall system demand and is actively implementing measures to strengthen water supply resiliency.

Residents and businesses are strongly urged to remain mindful of their water use and do their part to conserve while the drought emergency remains in effect. Updates will be provided as conditions change.
