Traffic Alert: Overnight Closure of Winter Street on June 17, 2026

Please be advised that Winter Street will be closed to all traffic between Lafayette Square and Hale Street for a single overnight shift, from 6:00 PM on Wednesday, June 17, to 6:00 AM on Thursday, June 18. Posted detours will be in place, and drivers are advised to avoid the area if possible.

This temporary closure is required to safely demolish the Winter Street side of the Stevens Street Mill, which was severely damaged in the April 28th fire. To ensure a safe work environment for the heavy machinery, National Grid will be temporarily shutting off electricity in the immediate area. Those impacted by the National Grid shutdown will be without electricity from 8:00 PM tonight to 4:00 AM tomorrow.

Power will be restored and the street will reopen as soon as the work is completed Thursday morning. While this project is an unfortunate necessity, the City is committed to resolving this safety hazard as quickly and safely as possible. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation.
