Update on Basiliere Bridge Construction with Traffic Pattern Change

It is anticipated that beginning in mid-September, final preparatory steps to demolish the first portion of the Basiliere Bridge will begin.  As was discussed at the public information meeting in March and the fact sheet published by MassDOT this June, to create a safe work zone, barrier will be placed down the center line of the bridge reducing the structure to one northbound lane (towards downtown Haverhill) and one southbound lane (towards Bradford).  The western (upstream) sidewalk will be part of this work zone and closed for an extended period.

 Once this condition is implemented, to ensure a smooth flow of northbound traffic, all left turns from the bridge onto Merrimack Street will be prohibited.  Traffic seeking to access Merrimack Street will be detoured via Bailey Boulevard and Emerson Street.  For more details, please see https://www.mass.gov/lists/documents-and-meeting-materials-basiliere-bridge-replacement#project-fact-sheet-
