Merrimack River Cleanup Initiative

Upcoming Merrimack River Shoreline Cleanup on July 26, 2026. 

Please join the Crescent Yacht Club and Haverhill Conservation Department for a morning on the water picking litter and heavy items out of the river and its shoreline.

Meet at the Crescent Yacht Club to pick up gloves, grabbers, and bags and head off onto the water. The target area is from the Crescent Yacht Club to Marianna's Marina.

If joining by foot, the Bradford Rail Trail and the banking is another location where litter builds up and washes into the river.

Stay after the cleanup for a cookout with the Crescent Yacht Club to relax, share stories from the morning, and celebrate a job well done with fellow volunteers.

Whether you're a boater, paddler, waterfront resident, or simply someone who cares about our river, we'd love for you to join us.

The Regional Effort

Haverhill is partnering with five of our nearby communities along the Merrimack River to improve its water quality and health.

Thanks to funding from the Massachusetts Community Compact Efficiency and Regionalization Grant from the Executive Office for Administration and Finance and support from the Merrimack Valley Planning Commission and the Northern Middlesex Council of Governments, the communities of Haverhill, Lawrence, Methuen, Tyngsborough, and Andover will each install booms along the river which will be cleaned out once a month as well as a community shoreline cleanup.
