Top Dog Contest

Residents who license or renew their dogs are invited to participate in our annual Top Dog contest for a chance to have their loyal companion named Haverhill's Top Dog.

The first-place winner will receive dog license #1. The winning dog's photo will be displayed in the City Clerk's Office, featured on the City's website, and awarded a trophy. Second- and third-place winners will receive license #2 and #3, respectively, and will also have their photos displayed and featured online.

To enter, participants must submit a high-quality photo of their dog at the time of licensing. Photos must include only one dog.

Dog licenses may be obtained in person at the City Clerk's Office, 4 Summer Street, Room 118, or online at:

The contest runs annualy from February 1st through February 28th. Photos of all contestants will be published on the City Clerk's Facebook page, and the three dogs receiving the highest number of "likes" will be named Haverhill's Top Dogs. The winners announcement will be posted on the closest business day after the contest's end by the City Clerk's Office.

Residents who own more than one dog may enter each dog separately. A valid rabies certificate is required to obtain a dog license.

City Clerk Announces Haverhill 2026 Top Dog Contest Winners

HAVERHILL – City Clerk Kaitlin Wright is pleased to announce the winners of the 5th Annual Haverhill Top Dog Contest. The contest encourages residents to license their dogs while enjoying a friendly competition. Winners were selected based on the “most-liked” photos posted to the City Clerk’s Office Facebook page.

Taking First Place and earning his time in the spotlight with 185 votes is Dante, a one-year-old male Golden Retriever owned by Nancy Cassidy. Dante is now proudly sporting dog license #1 and taking home the first-place trophy, proving he’s truly top dog.

Second Place was awarded to Watson, a five-year-old male Terrier mix owned by David and Allison Kazarian. Watson fetched dog license #2 after receiving an impressive 167 likes.

Finally, Third Place went to Monty, a two-year-old male Bernese Mountain Dog owned by Brittany Scarelli and Matthew Wrenn. Monty wagged his way into third place with 91 likes and was awarded dog license #3.

City Clerk Kaitlin Wright commented, “A huge thank you to everyone who entered the contest, and congratulations to our winners. This year we saw our highest turnout yet, with 183 entries, more than 100 additional contestants compared to last year! We paw-sitively enjoyed seeing the photos of everyone’s furry friends and watching the competition unfold on Facebook. The winning pups will have their photos proudly displayed in our office and on our website. Be sure to keep an eye out for next year’s contest. We can’t wait to see which dogs will rise to the top of the pack!”

City Clerk Announces Haverhill 2025 “Top Dog” Contest Winners

City Clerk, Kaitlin Wright, is pleased to announce the winners of the 4th Annual “Haverhill Top Dog” contest. The contest encourages residents to license their dogs by offering them a friendly competition. The winners were randomly chosen Monday at the City Clerk’s Office.

1st Place was awarded to “Ollie,” a one-year-old male Chorkie. He is owned by Cynthia Morgan. Ollie is now proudly displaying dog license #1 and the first-place trophy.

2nd Place was awarded to “Silas,” a two-year-old male Chihuahua mix. His owner is Robin Doyle. Silas was awarded dog license #2.

Finally, 3rd Place was awarded to “Pearl,” an eight-year-old female Pug. Her owner is Hannah Jelly. Pearl was awarded dog license #3.

2nd Place was awarded to “Karma,” a one-year old female German Shepherd. Her owner is Ted Smallwood. Karma was awarded dog license #2.

Finally, 3rd Place was awarded to “Sadie,” a five-year old female Standard Poodle. Her owner is Elisa Sanders. Sadie was awarded dog license #3.

1st Place was awarded to “Mitzi,” a twelve-year old female Labrador Retriever mix. She is owned by Terry Kenny. Mitzi is now proudly displaying dog license #1.

2nd Place was awarded to “Maddie,” a fifteen-year old female King Charles Cavalier Spaniel. Her owner is Judy DeMellia. Maddie was awarded dog license #2.

Finally, 3rd Place was awarded to “Rigby,” a seven-year old male Hound. His owner is Nancy Beirne. Rigby was given license #3.
