Please help keep our compost pile clean by making sure your grass and leaves are free of trash and debris. Grass and leaves can be dumped loosely or in biodegradable paper bags. All bags must be emptied and removed from the site by the resident.
Recycling Center Hours of Operation:
Wednesdays: 8am - 3pm - Please make in-person payments at the DPW office window (500 Primrose St.) on Wednesdays.
Saturdays: 8am - 1pm - If the DPW office is not open, please make in-person payments at the Recycling Center gatehouse, cash not accepted at gatehouse.
What you can recycle at the Haverhill Recycling Center:
(The Recycling Center is located behind DPW Garage at 95 Downing Ave) - For applicable items, you can pay at the front office, or pay online and bring receipt to onsite attendant or you can pay by check made out to the "City of Haverhill".
- Mixed paper and cardboard
- Aluminum cans, pie plates, trays and foil
- Metal cans, steel, and tin
- Clean glass bottles and jars, clear and colored
- Plastic containers #1 thru #7, clear and colored including blisterpaks.
- Universal Waste: Florescent light bulbs (linear, U-shape and CFL)
- Textiles aka clothing-Please bag: Learn What is Recyclable
- Plastic Bags aka plastic 'film':

Collection is the last Saturday of each month from 8:00 am-1:00 pm. There is a 5-Gallon limit. - Medical SHARPS:
Needles, Lancets & Syringes - in Puncture Proof container. - Appliances and Scrap Metal:
Stoves, hot water heaters, dishwashers, Dryers, Washers, Microwaves, Refrigerators, Air Conditioners, and Freezers... Wednesday 8:00 am-3:00 pm and Saturday from 8:00am-1:00pm. A fee of $15.00 per appliance applies. Scrap Metal is accepted free of charge. - Lawnmowers (push & rider), Snow Blowers, Rototillers... also fee of $15.00. (Drain oil/antifreeze)
- Tires:
A fee of $5 for passenger and $10 for truck tires can be paid online for Saturday drop off or at front office prior to drop-off. Print receipt for attendant on site or pay by check to the onsite attendant. Tires do not have to be off the rims. Wednesday 8:00am-3:00pm and Saturday from 8:00am-1:00pm. - Specialty and Rechargeable & Button Batteries {Auto Batteries a fee of $5.00}
- TVs /Monitors:
A fee of $20 for 'countertop or wall mounted' [CRT or flat screen] and $25 for Console/Projection (with any type of wood -including stand). - Mattresses and Box Springs: A fee of $25 per item for a mattress or box spring.
- No trash bags
- No Styrofoam
- No wallpaper, metallic wrapping paper, tissue, wax paper, wax cardboard and no soiled, grease or any remaining food particles.
- No materials shall contain any hazardous or toxic substances (paint and aerosol cans)
- Aquariums (with or w/o associated light-hood, filters, pumps, gravel, plants etc.)
- Building / Demo material, including dimensional lumber, toilets, doors, roofing, etc...
- No small appliances (mixers, fans, blenders, coffee makers etc.)
- No brick, pavers, asphalt, dirt, sand, concrete, etc...
- No furniture, couch, dresser, shelving etc...
Is there too much paper and cardboard in your dumpster? Why pay for it when you can drop it off for free?
Bring your mixed paper and cardboard down to the Recycling Center.
