The sewer pumping stations upgrade project stems from recommendations made in the City's Wastewater Pumping Station Evaluation and Capital Improvements (CIP) Report that was completed in August 2016 by engineering consultant Wright-Pierce. The pump station upgrades were designed by engineering consultant Tighe & Bond. The contract to complete the construction of the Alvanos Drive, Coffin Avenue & Hanover Street Pump Stations was awarded to DeFelice Corporation. DeFelice Corporation’s contract start date was June 28, 2024 with an anticipated final completion date of June 23, 2025.

Local funding authorization totaling $2,700,000 was approved by the Mayor and City Council under a loan order in 2024 (Doc 28-D).  This authorized the project to obtain financing and move forward to the construction phase.  This project consists of complete replacement of the existing Alvanos Drive, Coffin Avenue & Hanover Street pump stations with submersible type stations.

Construction of the upgrades to the Alvanos Drive, Coffin Avenue & Hanover Street Pumping Stations is financed by the Clean Water State Revolving Fund (CWSRF).  The CWSRF program is administered by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection with joint funding from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
