If you're looking for a way to get outside and give back to nature and your community on your own schedule, this opportunity is for you! The Haverhill Trail Steward program was created with the idea that all everyone is a steward every day when you: respect the rules of our conservation areas, help pick up litter, remove tripping hazards, and inform us about hazards and pressing issues on the trails. Learn more about the program.
Some core responsibilities of Trail Stewards include:
- Walk the trail periodically, preferably once in early spring and once in late summer or early fall.
- Identify turns and trail sections where blazing or signage is missing or could be improved.
- Remove any small trash along the trail. If there's anything larger than you can carry, leave us a message and our Trails Volunteers group can take care of the rest.
- Move any small limbs to the side or off trail that could impede safe walking, snowshoeing, XC skiing or biking.
- Report any trail maintenance issues, e.g.,
- Downed trees or tree limbs blocking the trail;
- Overgrown trail areas;
- Wet areas or other drainage issues impacting the trail or impeding safe walking;
- Large trash items;
- Evidence of illegal activity (e.g. garbage dumping, use of motorized vehicles, etc.).
- Report any trail kiosk issues.
